Competition winner now fully set up with FarmSight equipment & technology!

Title

Our FarmSight team have been busy fully installing our competition winners impressive prize!

Earlier this year we ran our biggest competition to date, for one lucky winner to win £14,000 worth of FarmSight technology and equipment to use for 12 months which also included a 12 months FarmSight package.

The quality of entries we received was high and we had a difficult decision to make choosing our winner.

We were delighted last month to announce Ben Sellick from Escott Farm in Williton as our lucky winner.

Ben’s farm is mixed crop, arable and grassland. Ben explains “We mainly run commercial suckler cows and take them through to finish, we also have a heard of pedigree Charolais cows, a small heard of Aberdeen Angus as well as having 200 ewes on the farm.”

Keen to utilise technology on his farm, Ben has done some soil mapping of his fields looking at the variations in soil types. “We calculated it was more cost effective for us to use a contractor with a variable rate spreader – as the saving on the fertiliser would be more cost beneficial to us as well as covering the cost of the contractor.”

Already seeing the benefits of using technology on his farm, Ben is looking forward to using his prize to improve the performance of some of his other machinery. Commenting “I also use a drill on the farm but I’m not a good drill operator! I allow a 10cm overlap of the drill for driver error. We use a 3 metre drill over a 24 metre boom which adds up, it equals 80cm of boom overlap. At best this leaves a dark strip and at worse 80cm of flat corn during harvest which is why I am excited to have the FarmSight AutoTrac technology installed.”

Dominic from our FarmSight team went to Escott Farm last week to install a tailored package for Ben’s needs, this included John Deere Universal AutoTrac Guidance System.

Ben won full use of the technology for 12 months as well as support from our Masons Kings FarmSight team. The support includes training for Ben as to how he can get the most from the FarmSight technology and equipment installed as well as full reporting about his farming practices and how improvements can be made.

Dominic and other members of our FarmSight team will be supporting Ben throughout the year and we’re excited we’ll be able to share his progress, results and thoughts about the technology.
