Understanding the size of your garden

Football Pitch 1

You may notice that when you visit any of our stores or when you call us to discuss your lawnmower needs that we ask you several important questions such as:

The reason we do this is to best determine which lawnmower is the most suitable to do the job you need.

It’s the garden size question that we are going to focus on in this blog because often our customers are very unsure of the actual size of their garden whether we are talking about it in metres squared or in acres.

Generally here at Masons Kings we tend to work in acres but to make it simple and easy to understand we have put the sizes in both metres squared as well as acres.

The trick that we have always used as almost everyone in this country can relate to it is comparing these measurements to the size of a football pitch. Although men’s football pitches can vary in size, generally they work out to be roughly the same as 1 acre which is 4000m2.  So if you can relate your garden to being a similar size to a football pitch then you know you’ve got roughly 1 acre of garden.

Not everyone has the luxury of a garden the size of a football pitch so to break it down into smaller sections again we use another sport that is very popular in this country, Tennis.

The sizes of domestic tennis court can vary from one to another but generally they work out to be a little bit over 500m2 which is 1/8th of an acre. So if you think you’ve got a garden roughly the size of two tennis courts then you know you’ve got about a quarter of an acre or 1000m2.

This will help you when you next need to answer the question of how big is your garden?

If you can answer in how many tennis courts or football pitches then we can get a good idea of the size of your garden and which mower would be most suitable for you!
