New Large Square Baler L600 series

Starting from model year 2020, the John Deere Large Square Baler offer is updated with a new model range.

The L600 series Large Square Balers have major improvements in three different areas:

  • More density …
  • More capacity …
  • More functions, more features without increasing the cost of operations and a large number of improvements

More density …!!!

This is the topic number when talking about large square baling business. Users and contractors want more weight and that in every single bale. The L600 provides 5% more density compared to the previous series:

On the 120 cm wide machine, the maximum pressure has been set at 210 bars now, so 17 % higher. Also, the control and the management of the density of the baler is done thanks to two load pins located inside the plunger. Furthermore, the plunger position is now constantly monitored during the baling cycle. All together the system is now able to control permanently the torque on the machine and by consequence can react faster and be adjusted to the target set.

On the L634, we have redesigned the density panels to improve the funnel effect inside the bale chamber. All together, we are able to produce heavier bale. Because the cost of operation is one of the major concerns of each farm operation, we keep the cost per bale even if that are heavier. To do so, we implemented in base for L624 and L634 a heavier flywheel that is 64 % above the L1500 one. That huge mass of energy allows the L600 series to cover these high peaks load without increasing the fuel consumption and at the same time it improves the driving comfort as it reduces the shaking effect perceived on the tractor seat.

More capacity …!!

This is the second that is on the top in mind when talking about square baling business. More capacity, more tons per hours thanks to the improvement crop flow line starting from the pickup. The roller baffle diameter has been increased by 13 %, it stands at 250 mm diameter.

The pressure control of that new roller baffle has been improved thanks to a self-pressure adjustment located on each side of the pickup.

The finger rake diameter is now at 10 mm to ensure permanent control of the flow out of the roller baffle. The pickup tine coil has been reinforced also to carry heavier crop picked up from the ground. Because, we don’t like to have down time, the pivoting gauge wheel get in base the semi pneumatic tires that have the same overall dimensions as the inflated ones. It means it offers the ground control and prevents the pickup unit from tipping over in uneven fields.

All models feature a 2.3 m pickup width. That picking unit keeps the well know key features like 5 pickup tines bar on bearings, galvanized pickup band, etc.…

Moving further in the crop flow, there are some major improvements regarding the existing RotoFlow or MaxiCut rotor introduced with the new MaxiRotoFlow.

MaxiRotoFlow is an XXL design to bale large dry crops swath with high productivity expectations.

The feeding driveline has been re-designed starting by the main gearbox, the feeder fork gearbox and its clutch with a capacity increased by 15 %, the rotor clutch capacity as well. The MaxiCut rotor speed is now 18 % faster compared to the L1500 series.

There are lot of new features in order to offer more comfort while baling but also better setting from the display and finally easier service operation of the machine.

  • A large choice of hitches, all CE homologated
  • Different sizes and categories of PTO including the double CV joint for the 1¾-inch and 1¾-inch sizes.
  • The new intermediate bearing housing with a multiple position.
  • New central tongue holder for electrical wiring harness and hydraulic hoses.
  • New tractor hydraulic connection with Power beyond load sensing technology.
  • Knife group selections from the display.
  • The display control with the driving arrows directions, the thickness flake size.
  • Exclusive automated functions for rotor or packer plugs (bale chamber, knives), can be enabled or disabled as the driver’s preference.
  • Automatic knives and knives slot cleaning function
  • The steerable axle control from the display with auto lock function (reverse and transport)
  • The bale discharge ramp and the bale ejector controls thanks to an electrical control panel on the back of the baler.
  • Knives cassette slide draw and control done by the electrical control panel.
  • New humidity sensor has a wider reading range, from 9% to 40 % and the offset adjusted.
  • Additional storage box with a capacity of 225 liters is in base. It allows to store up to 4 more twine spools but also it can store a full tool box.
  • Hand wash tank, dustbin and service box.
  • Service decals to shows the grease points that need to be service independently to the automatic greasing system.
  • Chain tension adjustment gauges to reduce service time.
  • Redesign tying tripping mechanism
  • Mechanical tripping mechanism can be now conveniently operated from the back of the baler.
  • New LED light capacity on the knotters deck
  • The two-rear work lights with frame protection
