John Deere are proud partners of International Women’s Day 2023. Celebrating achievements, raise awareness about discrimination and take action to drive gender parity.
To celebrate, we talk to our team at Masons Kings about equity, equality and careers.

Katie Williams

Tell us a bit about who you are and your current role / career progression.

“My names is Katie Williams and I am an Apprentice Turf Technician, I’ve been working for Masons Kings since November 2022.”

“I started as work experience in 2021 and did a year through college and decided to start an apprenticeship with John Deere to learn all about the golf/turf equipment. I’m hoping to learn through John Deere to eventually be a fully qualified John Deere Turf Technician.”

What would you like to see more for women in this sector?

“Personally, I would love to see more women get into the agricultural and turf sector as for years this industry has been very male orientated but now women are accepted into the industry without question, as it should be. I think everyone should give it a go and see if it’s something they enjoy. Women shouldn’t feel afraid to get stuck into this kind of industry as there are great benefits.”

How important is it in the workplace for diversity and inclusion?

“It is very important as everyone should be given the same chances and opportunities, this way everyone gets the opportunities to excel to the same levels and everyone is given the same chances.”

What does IWD theme “Embrace Equity” mean to you?

“To me, the theme “embrace equity” means that everyone is pushed to their fullest that they can achieve. Therefore, everyone is being treated equally and given the same chances as each other.”

Shannagh Clemens

Tell us a bit about who you are and your current role / career progression.

“I’m Shannagh Clemens and I am based at the Masons Kings Cornwall depot. My role at Masons Kings began in October 2019 as a Parts Apprentice. After two years of onsite work experience and multiple trips to John Deere’s UK head office for training, I completed my course in November 2022.”

“Primarily, my role includes identifying the parts required by our technicians and customers to help fix machinery and assisting with the sales of domestic equipment.”

What would you like to see more for women in this sector?

“It would be nice to see a reduction in the stereotypical attitude of which a woman doesn’t understand the sector.”

How important is it in the workplace for diversity and inclusion?

“I think that everyone has different qualities and skills, so to maximise the efficiency of a business you should not be declined a job opportunity because of your gender or any other factor.”

What does IWD theme “Embrace Equity” mean to you?

“Embrace equity is making sure everyone is given equal opportunities.”

Sarah Brimblecombe

Tell us a bit about who you are and your current role / career progression.

“I’m Sarah Brimblecombe, Integrating Technologies Co-Ordinator. I have been with Masons Kings for 16 years, starting as a General Administrator and working my way through the company to now manage my own department and team.”

What would you like to see more for women in this sector?

“Our industry is always seen as a male orientated industry, but actually there are a lot of females now involved in running family farms, driving machinery and working on golf courses. It would be nice to see representation highlighted in these industries a bit more.”

How important is it in the workplace for diversity and inclusion?

“Nowadays I think it is important to recognise that anyone can do any job, admin isn’t just for females, likewise being a technician isn’t just for males, which is seen here at Masons Kings. There are so many opportunities out there now and the world is evolving to be a more diverse world to include everyone in everything.”

What does IWD theme “Embrace Equity” mean to you?

“Embrace equity means to me that everyone is given the opportunity to try to progress themselves and is given a fair chance, tailored to their individual needs.”

Kelly Watts

“I’m Kelly Watts, the Administration Team Leader. I came to Masons Kings 10 years ago this week, to work in the purchase ledger and processing invoices, since then I have progressed to my current role, which involves, overseeing the admin / accounts teams, HR / Payroll and PA to the Director.”

What would you like to see more for women in this sector?

“Opportunities and more promotion of women within our industry.”

How important is it in the workplace for diversity and inclusion?

“It is about representation for all and about how different people’s contributions are valued.”

What does IWD theme “Embrace Equity” mean to you?

“Equal standing, opportunities and resources for all to give a fair and impartial quality.”
