Grass Harrows

Harrowing in an environmentally friendly way of improving grassland. It improves drainage, helping to minimise standing water. It also rejuvenates tired pasture by removing dead grass and lightly rooted weeds, whilst aerating and promoting new growth.  Harrows can also spread animal droppings, level mounds such as mole hills and rake in seeds and fertiliser.

Chain or drag harrows can be towed behind any vehicle with a pin or ball hitch, whereas frames harrows are designed to be used with a tractor 3-point linkage. The advantage of a framed harrow is that they can be lifted whilst attached for easy transportation.

Fleming Agri trailed chain harrows are ideal for all grassland operations as well as levelling out equestrian centres and tracks. The trailed chain harrow is the most cost-effective way to scarify, dethatch and aerate the soil. The chain harrows are excellent for pasture rejuvenation, stimulating growth by aerating and loosening thatch. Good root aeration allows for better water filtration to encourage growth. The chain harrow also helps to work in fertiliser to maximise effectiveness.

Also available for smaller machines, check out our compact range.

  • Fleming Mounted Harrows

  • HE-VA Grass Rejuvenators

The Grass Rejuvenator is a grassland improvement machine which consists of an aggressive shattaboard with slicing plates, 2 rows of heavy duty harrow tines, a HE-VA Multi-Seeder on the 2.9m models and an Air 16 Grass Seeder on the 6.3m and 8.2m models, and a Prisma roller. The slicing plates and harrow tines break up and level the soil surface in front of the grass seed outlets and the soil is then firmed behind by the Prisma roller.

The aggressive slicing plate and harrow action make the Rejuvenator ideal for use in badly poached fields which require restoration. It can also be used – minus the seeder – for harrowing grassland to remove trash and stimulate grass growth and for molehill levelling.

Furthermore, the action of the new heavy 550/600mm diameter Prisma Roller cracks and breaks clods produced by the front equipment to create a fine tilth for grass seed to germinate in. As a result, the machine is ideal for both grassland rejuvenation and reseeding cultivated land.

On folding machines, the frame incorporates HE-VA’s SAT weight transfer system and central pivoting of each section to ensure the sections can adapt to the contours.

  • HE-VA Stealth LD Grassland Subsoiler

Amongst grassland and livestock farmers there is a growing demand for effective, low disturbance subsoiling to loosen and fracture the medium depth subsoil to relieve compaction, caused by poaching and vehicle damage, thus assisting drainage and water infiltration, aeration, nitrogen uptake and encouraging grass rooting.

The Stealth – a medium depth, low disturbance grassland subsoiler.

The Stealth’s low disturbance legs are staggered in 2 rows to reduce soil squeeze and improve flow. This also helps maintain a lower HP requirement. Leg spacing is standard at 500mm but can be altered to 450mm, 500mm or 550mm, adding versatility for differing soil types and conditions.

The hardened cast steel low disturbance points are tungsten tipped and 120mm wide creating the necessary lift and shatter whilst ensuring longevity. Similarly, the 15mm Hardox leg is designed to give strength and durability whilst keeping soil movement on the surface to a minimum.

Surface compaction can be alleviated to a maximum working depth of 300mm (12”). HE-VA’s standard hydraulic depth control is fully adjustable from the tractor seat.

The Stealth was designed to satisfy the requirements of no till and reduced input farming systems, however, it is also suitable for use in livestock and grassland farming systems where farmers are looking to alleviate compacted layers in the soil, thus reducing water runoff and improving drainage along with air and nutrient movement throughout the profile which in turn increases sward productivity.

The Stealth is available as a 3m, 3.5m, 4m, 5m and 6m mounted or 5m, 6m and 7m trailed machine. Machines over 3.5m fold hydraulically.

The OPICO grass harrowing concept simply transforms the way you work your grass. The angle of the tine combined with the overall design of the harrow makes it ideal for stimulating new grass or renovating old pastures. Available in 1.5 -3 m Non folding, 4.5 – 8m Hydraulic folding, and 9.0 -12.4m Scissor folding.

With an OPICO Grass Harrow, leys can be re-vitalised and dry matter yields boosted. You can attach an OPICO Air Seeder, and oversow old worn leys to boost grass and clover content, or start afresh and put down a brand new ley with the harrow and seeder combination.

The OPICO Grass Harrow covers every inch of the ground, thanks to its unique contour flexing tine bed. It clears moss, opens the surface, improves aeration and encourages growth. Like all good ideas it is very simple and is now recommended by thousands of farmers who have switched to this common-sense approach to what used to be a ‘harrowing’ job.
