Our AMS specialists have been training and supporting Ben with his £14,000 prize of AMS technology and equipment to use for 12 months. Let’s see how he has been getting on….
Ben’s farm has a variety of mixed crop, arable and grassland. He’s been busy straight after harvest sowing grass seed with his Amazone Powerharrow Combination Drill mounted onto his John Deere 6150M tractor.
We’ve added a John Deere StarFire 6000 to Ben’s tractor which has an AutoTrac Integrated System. AutoTrac is a guidance system which reduces gaps and overlaps on each pass to easily master straight, curved and circle tracks.
Because precision is assured, tasks can be completed in a shorter time and always with the same level of accuracy so that input costs and fuel consumption are reduced, while the work rate is increased.
We spoke to Ben who said “I have been very impressed with the positive impact the StarFire 6000 has had on me, it has made drilling easier this year. AutoTrac takes over the steering which means I can concentrate on the drill application and improving it’s performance on each pass. The data appears as I work on the display so I can focus on that rather than getting each pass straight and reducing overlap.”
We’ve made sure Ben is recording all of his data so it can then be loaded onto his MyJohnDeere account to be able to easily manage the data and importantly make future decisions and plans.
“As well as sowing grass seed, I have been rape drilling into a number of my fields. The AutoTrac has had the same benefits for this” explains Ben. His next job will be drilling Winter Cereals which we’re sure the guidance will be used for too.
